The Verdict

FormCast selectionAl WidyanConfidence 3/5Didn't win
This is a wide-open 16-runner 2yo maiden with many unraced types, so proven form and a rating count for a lot. Al Widyan is the only horse in the field with an official rating (78), having already shown solid ability with a 4th then 3rd (43) in his last two starts, both within 16 days, suggesting fitness and progression. He's by Havana Grey, a sire whose stock are typically precocious and effective at 5-6f early in their careers, and he gets a leading rider in Oisin Murphy from the Andrew Balding yard, which has a strong record placing juveniles to advantage at this stage of the season. Balding/Murphy is a powerful, in-form combination for exactly this type of Newbury 2yo sprint. Draw 11 is workable in a 16-runner field on a straight 6f track. War Chest also has a promising piece of form (3rd on debut) and wears a hood, and could easily improve, but I make Al Widyan the more battle-hardened and progressive type given the confirmed rating and improving finishing positions. Most of the rest are unraced or have unpromising form (0, 8, 09), and while a newcomer could easily win this sort of maiden, there's no way to identify which one with confidence, so I prefer to back proven, improving form over speculative first-time-out types. Given the exposed profile, fitness, sire suitability and a top jockey/trainer combination, Al Widyan looks the most solid, sensible starting point in a race lacking clarity.
