The Verdict
FormCast selectionOrfiliaConfidence 3/5Didn't win
This is a weak, wide-open restricted maiden with several unraced fillies from strong yards (Botti, Boughey, Burke's Connie Sachs) making it hard to be certain, but Orfilia has the best solid form on paper. Her 4-8 finishes came against proper maiden company and she's by Too Darn Hot, a sire whose progeny improve with a run and handle 7f well. David O'Meara's yard is in good form and Rossa Ryan takes over, a positive jockey booking suggesting confidence. She's already shown she stays 7f and handles this type of ground, ticking the proven-trip box that several rivals (first-time out types) can't match. Lady Nenaz (97) and Ma Blushin Rosie (35) also have form but were behind similar or lesser fields, and Orfilia's placing look at least as strong. The unraced horses from top yards (Keithaar, News, Connie Sachs) are dangerous unknowns bred well enough to threaten, but with no working evidence I prefer to back the filly with the proven racing form and stamina for this trip. Draw 6 is fine for a stalking tactic. Given the festival of unknowns, backing the horse with genuine substance on the track rather than pure pedigree hope represents the smarter position, especially if she's allowed to go off at a workable price behind the fashionable first-timers.
