The Verdict

FormCast selectionBlack OrchidConfidence 4/5Didn't win
Black Orchid is the standout on form and consistency - a string of 222 finishes shows she's competitive at this level and clearly progressive, having been placed second in her last three starts. She's the only runner with a proven official rating (67) plus tangible recent form to work with, and the Fahey stable combined with in-form apprentice-beating rider Billy Loughnane adds confidence. Trainer Fahey is prolific with light-framed sprint types and knows how to place these AW novices to win having been agonisingly close in three straight runs - suggesting she's just needing the right trip/draw combination to break through, and a draw of 5 in a small 6-runner field over 5f is workable. Rivals are much more speculative: Elyam has interesting Kingman blood but hasn't run in over two years and was well held in his prior starts (353); Blue Moon Diamond is an unraced/no-form runner for a yard (Ramsden) that can produce forward types, but backing an unknown quantity is a gamble in a competitive maiden/novice; Miss Veronika's solitary '4' form line is unremarkable at 4 years of age and against these; Atomik, also with Ramsden, wears tongue-tie and has more promise than victory logged (7th latest) but was behind similar sorts. Beautiful Rumour's form figure of 9 (well beaten last time) at a big draw doesn't inspire confidence either. Given Black Orchid's the classiest, most consistent, and freshest sort in the field with a leading yard and a red-hot young jockey aboard, she rates the most solid win perspective, even without being a spectacular price.
