The Verdict
FormCast selectionMagic HarryConfidence 3/5Won ✓
This is a typically messy 2yo novice with plenty of unraced/lightly-raced types, so recent solid form counts for a lot. Magic Harry (form figure 3) has already shown he handles this grade, finishing third last time and having had experience compared to several market rivals who are debutants. David Egan takes the ride from a fair draw, and Tom Clover's yard has been in decent form with juveniles. Palace Legacy (38) is the obvious market rival having already won, but his last run was a fair way back in the field (form figure 8 latest) suggesting a bit of regression or a leap in class/tougher field this time, and stepping out to 7f for a third time isn't a certainty to suit. Cites, from the powerful Beckett stable and a smart Wootton Bassett/Sea The Stars pedigree, was only 6th last time and may need this trip more than he shows, but Ralph Beckett's juveniles do improve for a run - watch the market. The unraced brigade (Muhandes, Oldbullyoungbull, Quai Louis, Sterling Cooper) come from strong stables (Boughey, King, Walker, Balding) with fashionable/proven sires (Showcasing, Blue Point, Dubawi-influenced, Advertise) who all get quick sorts, so any of them could improve past this field, but with zero experience over todays testing Good-to-Soft ground and 7f trip, they're unpredictable first-time-out risks in a competitive field. On balance, Magic Harry's proven experience, decent placing figure, and capable connections make him the most solid, calculated selection versus market money likely to flow to fashionable freshmen or the one course-and-distance winner. I'm backing experience and a demonstrated ability to run well already over an examining test in this Confined novice.
