The Verdict
FormCast selectionGilding The LilyConfidence 4/5Won ✓
Small four-runner field where the Godolphin/Gosden filly stands out clearly on form. Her figures read 2-1, meaning last time out she scored, and she carries the highest weight (135lbs) which reflects a rating well above her rivals here - a big weight concession from a handicapper's perspective for a maiden/novice. Blue Point is a top-class sprinter/miler sire and this filly is clearly progressive, having already beaten similar company. Robert Havlin and the Gosden stable have excellent strike rates with lightly-raced improving fillies at this level, and the quick 21-day turnaround after a winning run suggests the yard rate her highly and are keeping her ticking over while she's in form. None of the other three colours give the same claim: Moontune's solitary '4' is a modest form line, River Nile was well beaten (6th) last time before a placed effort, and Star Mirage's form figures (232-07) show she has already been tried and found want at this level with an 0 among recent efforts. Gilding The Lily looks the one they all have to beat and the market should reflect that, but with only four runners this is a race where the classiest, most progressive filly rates a confident single. I'm happy to oppose the smaller-field uncertainty and back the form horse with the big weight and positive recent placing.
