The Verdict
FormCast selectionAlbany CountyConfidence 3/5Won ✓
This is a competitive 2yo maiden with several unraced Ballydoyle/Gigginstown-type types, making solid form the best guide. Albany County is the only runner with a form figure inside the top 3 (4-2), showing he's already run well twice and is clearly progressive, finishing second last time out only 21 days ago for the powerful O'Brien/Lordan combination. That yard has a strong record placing these lightly-raced Camelots to win maidens second or third time out, and Lordan riding suggests confidence. Ryano Bhino (7-8) and Ted's Turn (5-5) have been running but not threatening to win, while Breath Of Paradise (4-3) for Harrington is respectable but hasn't shown quite the placed form Albany County has. The unraced O'Brien and Aidan O'Brien second string (Pirate Of Penzance), plus Mount Meru (Baaeed colt for Joseph O'Brien/Juddmonte) are interesting on pedigree but completely unknown quantities in a 14-runner field - too risky to back with confidence first time out, even with strong connections. Albany County's proven placed form, positive trajectory, and being effectively the market leader from the dominant Camelot sire-line for this trainer gives him the most solid, evidence-based claim. I'm not blown away by the price given he'll likely be short, but the alternative of siding with unexposed newcomers in a big maiden field is a bigger gamble than backing the horse with the best actual proven form.
