The Verdict
FormCast selectionMumhanConfidence 4/5Didn't win
Mumhan's form line reads 15-0 which looks modest at first glance, but the "1" shows a proven winning attitude at this level from a top yard (Bolger) with a top jockey (McDonogh) booked. A 160-day break suggests a fresh, well-planned reappearance from a stable that specialises in placing horses to win first time back or with minimal fuss. Bred by Mehmas out of a Gone West-line dam, he has the requisite speed pedigree for 7f on yielding ground. Draw 1 is workable over this trip at Gowran. Crucially his rating of 86 is competitive without being exposed to the same extent as rivals like City House (89, but a stack of runs figures 548407 showing recent inconsistency) or Rion Rubette (811028 - similarly workmanlike but not progressive). Roaring Fire is the market player with a recent win, but that was 20 days ago and he's already had plenty of educational runs (1-7) - the concern is whether he's fully continuing to progress or was found out last time. Booyea is a` 6-year-old handicap type with modest recent form (502840) and looks held around this grade. City House and Rion Rubette are consistent but have shown little sign of stepping forward. Mumhan looks the classiest, freshest sort in the field with genuine upside given the powerful stable and rider combination, and the well-spaced comeback suggests they see this as a leading opportunity. I'll take him as the value alternative to obvious market leaders given the drop in exposure/experience relative to potential.
