The Verdict

FormCast selectionEncoreConfidence 4/5Didn't win
Small five-runner novice with a mix of lightly-raced types. Encore looks the class act: by Haggas out of a Dansili mare, she finished a solid 5th on debut (form figure "5-") for a top yard, and now returns fresh after a break for a stable that excels with fillies stepping forward for run two. Haggas/Marquand combination at a course like Windsor with a fitter, more experienced filly than most in this field is a strong angle - William Haggas has a excellent record improving lightly raced fillies second time out, and Marquand riding suggests confidence. Cercis and Just Dreaming both have functional recent form (5-42 and 5-752) but their marks (58 and 57) suggest they're solid but modest maidens, and both are already fully tuned up with little more improvement expected, whereas Encore looks the type to have more scope. Queen Of Hope is unraced by a smart young sire (Pinatubo) for a small yard - could not be underestimated but zero evidence to back it. Sunday Girl was only 3rd on debut last season for Ed Walker and has had over a year off, a big query. Draw in stall 3 for Encore is workable at Windsor's 6f. Given the calibre of connections and the fact she was runner-up in some sense of quality on debut, she looks retrievable value in a weak-ish novice field.
