The Verdict
FormCast selectionEast EagleConfidence 4/5Didn't win
Top-weight Dr Seb has the highest OR (99) but his form figures (/68-5P) show inconsistency including a pulled-up effort, and he's stepping up in class of task carrying big weight for the yard's second string. East Eagle, from the same Sowersby stable, looks the more progressive and consistent sort - his figures read 1-56P1, showing a recent win last time out and generally competitive placings when completing, with the pull-up (P) figure sandwiched between solid form either side suggesting it may have been trip/tactical rather than a want of ability. A recent win (the '1' at the end of the figure string) signals he's going the right way and retains ability at this level. Fitted with tongue-tie for extra focus, and Charlie Maggs' 3lb claim helps offset the 6lbs weight difference to Dr Seb, making the form book close between the pair but East Eagle arguably showing more upward trajectory. The extended 3m3f trip should suit a stayer type and his dam-sire Ask progeny tend to appreciate a test of stamina. Being from the same in-form stable as the market elect but with fresher, more encouraging recent form (a win next start out) makes him the value option relative to what will likely be a short price for Dr Seb. The rest of the field are declining sorts on ratings 8-15lb inferior and with moderate recent efforts, unlikely to trouble the front two. This looks a match race in leaderboard terms between the two Sowersby runners, and I'm siding with the second-string on emerging form and value grounds.
