The Verdict
FormCast selectionNight StarConfidence 4/5Didn't win
Night Star is the only proven commodity in this maiden-laden field. His form line of 5-3-3 shows genuine consistency, with an official rating of 82 confirming solid, competitive form at this level already — most others here have no official rating at all, meaning they've shown little to nothing in public form. Richard Hannon is a top-tier trainer for 2yo turf sprints/middle-distance types and his placed efforts suggest he's crying out for this class drop into a restricted novice, and stepping up conditions-wise. Pat Dobbs riding suggests stable confidence.
The rest of the field is packed with unraced or lightly-raced types (General Wolfe, Cashinoroyale, Lauriger, Rock In Japan all have no form) from good yards (Walker, Beckett, Baker) with smart pedigrees, but that's speculative compared to a horse with genuine bare form and a rating. Vardo and Mulvaney's Return both have a solitary 6th to their name, not obviously working towards m form. There Goes My Hero's form reads oddly and looks the weakest.
Given the concrete evidence of ability already shown, Night Star looks the value option relative to unexposed sorts who could easily disappoint on debut/second run. The step up to a mile also looks sensible given his sire line and the fact he's already shown promise running well below the trip ceiling. I'll back him as the most solid, proven contender in a race full of question marks.
