Newcastle (AW) 5:45 Result

Top-weighted on OR (53) but that's earned through recent consistent form: 766285 shows he's been running well, with a 2nd last time out and only 17 days since. Ruth Carr's yard is in decent form and the gelding looks to have found a niche at this AW mile trip. The addition of a visor (p) for the first time (or continued use) suggests they're sharpening him up for a knee-jerk price. His draw of 6 is workable. Rivals like Thunder Rush (three runs, form 570) and Here Comes Louie (-86227) are exposed as more one-paced or freakish improvers without proof, while Defence Missile's yard/jockey combo (5lb claimer) is interesting but his solitary 5th and inconsistent efforts (-89518) leave questions on this quicker turnaround. Itszaboy and Walk On Walk On both show plenty of minor-placed efforts (652 finishes) without breaking through, suggesting they're workmanlike rather than progressive. Lady Delila and The Floors Munky are held on official ratings and current form. Barleybrown's rating is the highest but justified by the upward curve in his form figures, and with a recent second-place effort he looks the one type on offer who is going the right way. He's not the biggest price on offer but represents the strongest combination of proven course/distance form, revealed improvement, and stable intent with headgear. I'm not fully confident given the messy nature of this Class 6 heat, hence a moderate confidence rating, but he stands out as the most solid contender in a race lacking a standout.
