The Verdict
FormCast selectionStarlustConfidence 4/5Didn't win
Starlust holds top rating (112) in the field and is the only runner with a Group-level profile at this trip, having placed in top sprints last season. His recent form figure -60424 looks moderate on paper but the "2" and "4" came in better company, and crucially he ran just 6 days ago, suggesting he's fit and fresh into this rather than needing the run - a big plus in a red-hot Class 1 sprint. Ralph Beckett's yard is in form and Rossa Ryan is a booking of substance. Draw 9 is workable at Newbury's 5f, which tends to favour those who can race prominently without being badly boxed in, and Starlust has the gate speed to get a good position.
Diligent Harry (Ryan Moore) is the obvious market player, back after 84 days off with a piece of headgear added, but he's yet to prove his best form returns fresh, and the layoff is a slight concern for a veteran sprinter. Redorange and Dickensian both have solid recent form but are stepping up in grade against much higher-rated rivals. Shagraan looks interesting fitness-wise but his best when fresh was over course & distance last season, and his rating (104) is below Starlust's.
Aspect Island and Naana's Sparkle are progressive but unproven at this level - Naana's Sparkle in particular has a nice sequence (141201) but is taking a big step up in class from a lower level.
Overall, Starlust's superior official rating, fitness edge from a recent run, and a strong jockey booking make him the standout value proposition relative to what should be a competitive market price, likely bigger than his true chance warrants given the layoff/fitness concerns around some market rivals.
