The Verdict
FormCast selectionFine PointConfidence 4/5Didn't win
Fine Point carries the second-highest OR (95) but has the best recent profile of the field - his form figures 3-13U4 show he's been running well at a competitive level, with a win in there and only unseated when travelling well. At just 5yo with a 5lb claimer aboard, he has the profile of a horse still progressing rather than one exposed at this grade. His trainer Adam Nicol has this yard firing, and the drop back to a stiffer test at Kelso over 2m2f should suit a horse who's shown he can act at the trip. Top-rated Scots Poet (OR 99) is old (10) and his form line 211U25 is solid but he's had plenty of chances and a mixed campaign; he looks the market cog but not obviously superior in class terms once weight-for-age/experience is factored, and there's more scope for placed-form to translate into a win with Fine Point given his slightly lower porfile in the weights. Struth's figures (5-6666) are a stark decline - each run worse, no indication he wants to turn that around today. Hijo de La Luna and Wispit Twob both wear first-time/cheekpiece visors suggesting makeover attempts but the improvement of a step up isn't proven and their profiles (P's, F's) look risky on quicker ground. The remainder are notably lower-rated and out of form. On pure ability plus alignment of a scope for improvement versus an aging, more exposed rival, Fine Point looks the most complete package to win this on ratings, profile and market support without being over-bet as an obvious jolly.
