The Lost King has been in tremendous form (134011), winning his last two starts including a decisive victory just 16 days ago, and is clearly progressive at 4yo. He's a King Power runner for Andrew Balding, a trainer who excels at placing his horses to peak, and P J McDonald has been in top form. His OR of 109 leaves him with more in hand than his mark suggests given the upward trajectory. Crucially, Balding-trained horses and this type (strong, attritional stayer types) tend to act well on soft/heavy ground, and his recent scores have come with authority suggesting he handles testing conditions. The two market leaders (Dancing Gemini and Persica) both carry question marks - Dancing Gemini's form figures (0-6455) are moderate with a recent 5th, while Persica, though consistent (425213), hasn't shown the same scintillating turn of improvement and his best form has come on quicker ground historically for the Hannon stable. Fondo Blanco is interesting on best form (14-002) but the 4-run gap and unproven state on heavy ground at this class level is a slight concern, and King Power have two runners here which could work in The Lost King's favour if stable jockey preference matters. The younger types (Hankelow, Needle Match, Colori Forever) are attractively bred but stepping up in class/distance against experienced older rivals on testing ground - a risk. Overall, The Lost King's man-form, trainer prowess, and physical scope to relish soft/heavy make him the stand-out at a fair each-way/win price relative to the more exposed favourites.
