The Verdict
FormCast selectionQuicken AwayConfidence 4/5Won ✓
This is a competitive 2yo maiden over a mile with several well-bred, well-connected types, but Quicken Away stands out. He was runner-up last time (form figure 2) for a top yard in Andrew Balding, who has a strong record placing progressive 2yos at Goodwood, and he's ridden by Oisin Murphy, one of the stable's stronger big-race bookings. By Frankel out of a Tamayuz mare, his pedigree strongly supports improvement over middle distances, and stepping up in trip to a mile after a placed effort suggests this drop-in-class/right-trip test suits. Noble Traveller (Ryan Moore, Richard Hannon, also form figure 2) is the most obvious market rival - well bred by Zarak out of a Sea The Stars mare - and could easily be sent off favourite, but Quicken Away's Frankel/stamina influence looks tailor-made for this stayers' maiden at exactly the trip suggested by the race title. Royal Acclamation (Appleby/Buick, Godolphin) was third last time and is interesting but unproven form-wise compares less favourably than the two runners-up. Al Qayed (Haggas, third last time, Baaeed colt) also has claims but the manner of his run is unclear plus Baaeed's stock can still be finding feet at this trip early season. The improvers with no form (Momentsofsurrender, Surrey Bolt) are hard to trust fresh in a race with proven types already showing ability. Speyside's form figures (30) suggest inconsistency. Overall, Quicken Away's placed effort, elite trainer/jockey combo, and pedigree profile for exactly this stayers-type mile race make him the most complete package, and if he's on similar terms to Noble Traveller in the market, he offers the better value angle given Balding's strong hit-rate developing this sort of maiden into a subsequent winner.
