Goodwood 2:35 Result

Strike Red's recent form reads 107421 - a strong, consistent sequence culminating in a win and a close second, showing he's in tremendous form and clearly likes this competitive sprint grade. At 8 he's a proven, tough handicapper who keeps finding a way to be competitive, and the Fahey yard know exactly how to place him. Crucially he gets in on a workable mark of 91 with a fair draw (6) for this 6f test, well below the top-rated Ardisia (99) and Fandom (97) who both carry more weight and are stepping up in class/scrutiny after decent but not spectacular recent efforts. Ardisia is talented but has been freshened and Oisin Murphy's booking is interesting, yet the third/blank efforts in his 746304 sequence show he's not the banker his profile suggests, and he's unproven at this trip in this grade of soft ground sprint. Fandom's 104303 is solid but he's had six runs without back-to-back peak efforts and looks vulnerable to closers with fresher form. Rapper's Delight (299228) and Jungle Drums are progressive but less proven at this level in a stiff 6f handicap. Strike Red's blend of A-grade recent form, suitable draw, favourable weight-for-rating, and being fresh off 44 days (allowing recovery) makes him the standout value angle in a wide-open, competitive field. The soft ground and stiff Goodwood 6f suit tough, genuine gallopers like him rather than exposed types stepping up sharply in class.
