Rum Diamond ran a solid 2nd 25 days ago, showing he's already competitive at this level, and that experience over hurdles should tell against several rivals having their first start. Max Comley's yard can place juveniles well and a blinker/tongue-tie type booking with a claimer suggests they're pressing forward off a good run. Houndswood Willow (3rd last time, 25 days ago) is the obvious market rival but his form line is a place behind a similar level, and Rum Diamond's placed effort looks at least as strong watching the bare form. Causing Problems is fancied by Dan Skelton's powerful yard but is unraced over hurdles (no form shown) and has been off 167 days - festival to fitness questions remain, and first-time hurdlers from this stable can need the experience. The rest (Janteloven, Ollierob, Royal Sapphire) are all unraced over hurdles with no form to assess, making them harder to trust in a paying position, though whichever of them is fancied by market as second favourite could easily improve. Given the presence of proven-form types, backing the one who's already shown he handles this grade and finished ahead of one rival (Houndswood Willow was 3rd, presumably in same or similar race) gives a sounder foundation than opposing form with pure guesswork. Rum Diamond gets the nod as the most reliable improver with race experience on his side.
