The Verdict
FormCast selectionCiao CapoConfidence 4/5Didn't win
Ciao Capo arrives in career-best form, winning last time out and with a recent 1-6-1 sequence showing rapid improvement at 3yo. Fahey yard is in form and Oisin Orr takes the ride, a strong booking. OR73 looks workable off a light weight (133lbs) for a still-progressive type, and the step to 1m2f looks fine given the pattern of races. Soft ground shouldn't be an issue given the pedigree (Medaglia d'Oro influence handles cut) and recent form was achieved in similar conditions.
Rivals: Shimmering Sands and Project Geofin top the weights on OR75 but both are lightly-progressive older/handicap types who look more exposed - Shimmering Sands' form figures (34-113) show only one recent win with mixed placings, while Project Geofin's 29-703 is patchy. Everyoneknowsadave (643214) is also in decent form and second in the weights but has already shown a level and may be capped there. Rapide Vega is interesting on RPR trajectory (form -58251, winner last time) but has less depth of proven improvement than Ciao Capo and is up in class/trip potentially.
Ciao Capo's trajectory - a keen, in-form 3yo stepping up in trip with a red-hot jockey booking - offers the best combination of upside and current form. The other leading contenders are more exposed or held together by inconsistent efforts. I make Ciao Capo the value play at a fair price relative to a warm favourite likely to be Shimmering Sands or Project Geofin.
