Owen Burrows is a shrewd trainer who doesn't need many runners to win, and Callum Rodriguez takes the ride. At just 3yo with an OR of 80 (top-rated in the field alongside Great Chieftain), he looks the type improving with racing while others around him are more exposed handicappers. Great Chieftain's OR is identical at 80 but his form figures (859406) show more inconsistency, with a poor run last time. Ecclefechan is progressive (865311) but stepping up markedly in class after facing weaker company, and his mark of 67 makes it a tough task against these. Burdett Estate has a big layoff (107 days) which is a concern despite decent form. Luzon Heights and Get Outta Here are both consistently frame-hitters but haven't shown the same recent winning form as Ascending Star. The step up to this trip should suit Ascending Star given his pedigree (Starman/Starspangledbanner is more speed-oriented but Dense Star's influence and the way he's placed suggests stamina for a mile). His recent 32-day break is workable, and the drop back in against similar or slightly weaker opposition after his last-time-out win suggests he's crying out to follow up. I make him the most attractively-priced runner with a genuine chance to win outright.
