This is a messy 2yo maiden/novice with several unraced types, so recent solid form counts for a lot. Arthur Carrot is by Perfect Power (fast, precocious sprinting sire) out of a Storm Cat-line dam, trained by George Boughey who is sharp with 2yo sprinters, and his "26" form line shows he's already been placed second in a recent start, running close enough at this trip to suggest he's on a good mark for a novice sprint. He acts quickly to the game, has already shown ability without needing to step forward much, and Pat Cosgrave's booking on a Boughey 2yo suggests confidence. Stablemate Hunstanton is unraced and unproven, so Boughey's stronger hand looks to be the horse with the form. Blue Fox (65) and Pulse of Fire (73) have solid recent form too but their placings suggest they were behind that day; Champion Crown's solitary "5" run was 96 days ago, a big absence for a two-year-old, and first-time cheekpieces add a query. Lady Henshaw's 72 sequence is respectable but she was well beaten last time and 50 days off. Several youngsters here (Castlerock Girl, Palms Oasis, Without Diamond) are unraced/unknown, hard to fancy blind versus a horse with a proven placed effort at this level. Draw 8 is workable at Southwell's straight 6f. Overall Arthur Carrot looks the most solidly progressive type with the right pedigree and stable, and represents a fair balance of form security and place under a booked leading jockey.
