The Verdict

FormCast selectionThe Mean FiddlerConfidence 4/5Won ✓
This looks a moderate 2yo maiden and The Mean Fiddler stands out as the only runner with a proven, progressive form line: form figures 22, meaning two runs-to-date both finishing runner-up, with an official rating of 79 - clearly the highest assessed mark in the field (others mostly unrated or 67). By No Nay Never out of a Australia mare, he's bred for speed and has already shown he handles this task, finishing closely in his last two starts. Jason Hart takes over which suggests the yard rate him, and John & Sean Quinn's yard is in good form with their sprinters. Fresh 21 days since his last run, he looks fit to build on that experience and step up to win having twice been beaten a short head/neck type margin already - normally exactly the profile needed to go one better in a maiden. Calef has some solid efforts (44344U) but hasn't managed to break through and her rating of 67 is modest; she looks more a each-way type than the winner. By Jove Grace (25) has run credibly but was beaten further than The Mean Fiddler relatively. The rest are unproven types stepping up in class/experience with barely any form to go on (Paphos, Pivotal Star, Classyfied, La Flor Granada, Sable Noir) - tough to trust in a competitive sprint maiden. The Mean Fiddler's rating advantage and proven placed form make him the one to beat, and he should start favourite on ratings alone, but the form figures suggest a fair rather than short price, making him solid value as the best bet in the race.
