Hamilton 5:02 Result

Small, weak Class 6 confined handicap where no runner has won all year. Winter Crown carries top weight on OR60 but his recent form (409-86) shows a solid 6th last time and earlier placed efforts, and crucially he was runner-up (the "8" digit aside, the "0" and "9" show competitive placings) fairly recently at 13 days ago, suggesting fitness. Bailey's yard is in form and Tudhope taking the ride for a 60-rated stable stalwart is a positive jockey booking - a leading rider wouldn't take this ride without confidence. Draw 9 is awkward over 6f at Hamilton but the gelding has generally raced up with pace and his rating is the highest in the field, suggesting class edge over this weak bunch. Bay Breeze's 734463 figures show consistency but he's already had a level of exposure at this class without winning, and is dropping in class ceiling. Lesley's Boy wears a visor first time and has been well held in most starts (-05884) - the 8s suggest he's not seeing things out. Ottawa's yard-mate to Winter Crown may cloud things but his own form (865004) is weaker with an OR only 57. Edmond Halley and the two fillies down in the weights look to lack the class to trouble the principals, though Sovereign Class rates an interesting outsider on a good workmanlike effort last time. Overall this is a weak, moderate contest and the highest-rated, best-drawn-for-pace type with a strong jockey booking (Winter Crown) stands out as the most reliableston to construct a bet around, even without being an obvious standout price.
