Chester 4:17 Result

Sudden Flight tops the weights on merit off 86 and his recent form line (322205) shows he's been running consistently in-the-frame at a good level, with the runs either side of that one blip strong. He's fit having had a recent break of only 20 days and has an established record of racing prominently which suits Chester's 5f dash where pace and position matter. Draw 3 is workable, not ideal but manageable for a sharp sprinter, and Cosgrave riding for Richard Hughes (in good form with sprinters) adds confidence. Elegant Erin (85) is the obvious market rival but at 9 years old and with a stop-start finish to her recent form (906334) she looks vulnerable to younger, faster-improving types. Betsen (091853) and Dream Composer (471543) both have solid recent placed form but are giving weight to the top two and neither has shown the same tactical speed gains. Noble Vow is interesting on best-form figures (531100) but a 51-day break and 3-y-o taking on experienced sprint handicappers first time up this trip/track is a slight query, though he could easily be the second string in wagering. The 5f Chester test rewards those drawn to get a positive tow into the stalls-run and hold a position - Sudden Flight's steady sequence of high finishes suggests he handles that leverage. He looks best watched, ridden with confidence, up in class only marginally, and represents a fair combination of form and price relative to the next in the market, Elegant Erin, who I expect to be sent off shorter than warranted.
